The Blue Ribbon Open was a golf tournament on the PGA Tour, played only in 1951. It was played at the North Hills Country Club in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin. Joe Kirkwood, Jr. won the event by two shots over Sam Snead. Contrary to the AP's account, the event was played over 72 holes. Jim Ferrier finished tied for third with Lloyd Mangrum. Joe also won the Philadelphia Enquirer Open, played at the Whitemarsh Valley Country Club in Lafayette Hill, PA. Wikipedia says the tournament was held in 1949; the Whitemarsh Valley website says the tournament was held in 1948, and that Kirkwood won and Ben Hogan finished second. My guess is that it was 1948 – Hogan's car crash happened on February 2, 1949, and nobody plays golf in Pennsylvania in January. Both tournaments were official PGA Tour events.
