Editor's notes: When I was building this page, I suspected that the name at the bottom of the scores list was a joke by some witty player. But I'm informed that it was indeed a real person, a noted chicken breeder and avid golfer, and former president of the Claymore Club, the "Who's Who" of Northern cockfighting. He was also a founder of the Golfer's Charitable Association, sponsor of the Lady Carling Open which benefited Children's Hospital. Read about Harry Parr IV here.
It appears that there was both a 54-hole cut and a 36-hole cut in this tournament, and that the cut numbers were different for professionals and amateurs.
Golf World reported: "Baltimore was not new to Ray Heins, but a circuit tournament was. The former cabdriver, plumber and general handy man who turned professional in 1953 at 33 years of age lost his putting touch in the second round. [He was tied for the lead after the first round.] He had seven bogeys and a double bogey. He hit the par three sixth hole with his tee shot but four-putted from 40 feet. He used to drive a taxi in Baltimore and was twice city public links champion."
On the same page as the tourney results, the magazine reported "Micholek Beats Pros - Frank Micholek, five-time Baltimore public park champion, won the Howard County open championship at All View CC in Endicott City, Maryland, Sept. 28."
